About me, the Artist
I live in the coastal region of Taranaki, New Zealand. In 2025, I decided to live life as an artist for a year and see where it took me.
So, I built a studio in my backyard, joined an online community of artists, and started painting faces — and everything shifted.
That year, I exhibited 18 of my paintings at the Taranaki Arts Trail and sold 10 of them. I received commission requests, was asked to donate work to art auctions, and even had a piece, Sofia, selected as a finalist for the Tasman National Art Awards. Those moments didn’t just build confidence — they helped me realise I could truly call myself an artist.
Art has always been part of my life. I’ve dabbled off and on and collected many art pieces over the years — in fact, there’s hardly a spare patch of wall left in my house.
From my studio overlooking the Te Henui bush reserve in New Plymouth, I’m surrounded by tūī, kererū, and other native birds chattering away. It’s a pretty special place to create. And when I paint, time just slips away — I get completely absorbed in it.
Every painting teaches me something new and keeps me growing, and that’s the part I love most.
Painting portraits and people is where my heart sits. I’m fascinated by expression, posture, and the tiny details that reveal who someone is. I’m not aiming for it to be a reproduction of a photo — I want presence, emotion, and connection. I build up layers of colour in a loose realism style until the person on the canvas feels alive, as if they might take a breath. For me, each portrait becomes more than a likeness — it’s a story. A moment of being seen. Something felt rather than explained.
Thanks for being here and spending time with my work. I hope it makes you pause, feel something, and step into the story hinted at within each painting.
