Cousins

Cousins explores a bond that is both chosen and inherited. They are not siblings, but they share the same people and history. Growing up together, they have been friends, mirrors, protectors, and rivals, always having each other’s back. Together, they are a force. Where their backs meet, subtle veins hint at a shared bloodline and a connection that runs beneath the surface.

Cousins has been selected for the exhibition and final judging of the Adam Portraiture Award 2026. This artwork was one of 43 selected by their guest judge Jude Rae, from a total of 429 entries. The opening and prizegiving is on Wednesday, 20 May at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Wellington.
